Serenity

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
The courage to change the things I can;
And the wisdom to know the difference
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen

I lay in bed last night thinking about this prayer (well, about the first 3 lines of it anyway) and I thought it would be good for me to make a list. For those of you who know me, you will know that lists comfort me! (I may or may not be a little OCD?!)

So, here it is:

Things I Cannot Change:
-That Ella Grace, NuNu and Peanut are gone
-That I don’t know why they are gone
-“A” and other people in my life
-Other people in general (politics!)

Things I CAN Change:
-Who I put my Faith in
-That I can choose to trust that God’s plan is better than anything I could have ever imagined
-How I react/respond to other people (“A” included)
-How much I let yesterday affect tomorrow
-If I choose to live in this moment and not worry about the next one
-Taking control over my body (diet, exercise, etc)
-How I invest our money, time, thoughts and resources
-What my life means to others
-How I let other people affect me

This is all I can come up with for now, but it makes me feel powerful to focus on the things I can change. I am working on it!

Beautiful post. I often find myself repeating the first (and most common) words of this prayer and I appreciate you sharing the whole thing. You are working on it, and you are doing an amazing job!

Umm, yeah...It's no secret that I am A LOT OCD!

(Some of the biggest arguments my husband and I have gotten into are over him stepping on the lines after I've just vacuumed or flushing the toilet while the water I'm using for brushing my teeth is running, or him hiding my keys ON PURPOSE after the 79th time I checked to make sure I knew where they were...I could go on...)

....but I think this list is wonderful! Bless your heart, I think some things are easier listed than done (at least for me, like how I let other people affect me!) but the effort and commitment is impressive!
Lifting you up and sending lots of love!!!

You always get me thinking and make me feel less alone in some of the things I do or feel. That helps me grow.

I let my yesterdays affect my tomorrows too often. I've always had a hard time forgetting the hurt and leaving it behind. I'm going to try and work on that a little harder thanks to your list. You're right...it's something I CAN change!

Oh..I'm a HUGE fan of lists too! :)

What an awesome list.

I also wanted to let you know I'd LOVE to make a photo pendant for you. I couldn't find your email address, but if you'll just send me an email to heather.mohr @ gmail.com with the photo you'd like to use, I can get started. :)

Oh and I see you're in HR - so am I!

I'm very sorry for your loss. (((hugs)))

I love this prayer. And I love the idea of making a list to go with it. I'll have to journal on that - thanks for the great idea!

And at work, sometimes I add things I've done (that weren't on my list) to my to-do list just so I can cross them off. :)
